One of Italy’s fastest-growing shared mobility brands offers a fierce case study in how to properly harness the power of franchise mobility software with a fool-proof strategy.
By combining electric bikes, scooters and mopeds with Joyride’s connected mobility platform, BikeBoom has built a franchise-first, feature-focused, remotely managed rental service that has grown from 100 vehicles to more than 2,000 vehicles in two years.
This case study explores how tapping into features like Joyride Pay, Promos and Underpayment Recovery is delivering explosive numbers for BikeBoom, with 35 franchise partners and counting.

The Customer
BikeBoom was founded in Italy in 2020 with the goal of combining traditional rental services with shared mobility. The company rents e-scooters, e-bikes and mopeds, and also provides IoT retrofitting for vehicles that were not originally designed for sharing.
Initially, BikeBoom developed a platform dedicated to operators for traditional rental management. The team then integrated sharing technology and launched their first 20 e-scooters in a single city using a platform that could not support their scalable franchising model or their long-term ambitions. That’s when it was time to turn to an integrated IoT and software platform.
The Challenge
Enter Joyride. BikeBoom needed a software platform to support a large mixed fleet, public and private use cases, and a franchise model. Early franchise partners were not equipped to manage bookings, payments or day-to-day fleet logistics on their own.
BikeBoom needed two contradictory things: give each local partner enough autonomy to price, zone and operate for their own territory, but own a single source of truth across every market.
“When we discovered Joyride, we immediately understood that it was the right solution for our needs because the platform is flexible, reliable and suitable to support a franchising business model,” says BikeBoom Founder Francesco Di Febo. “They built us a scalable model very quickly.”
The Solution: One Platform, Many Operators
Joyride powers BikeBoom with one centralized platform that provides rider access, payments, fleet controls, geofencing, analytics and multi-operator franchise support. The Joyride Fleet Dashboard serves as BikeBoom’s white-labeled remote command center, tracking ridership trends and vehicle status across a growing national network. With real-time maps, vehicle status alerts and event logs, the team stays ahead of issues, protecting the rider experience and upholding service standards across every franchise location.
For franchise partners, it is a smooth ride from day one. BikeBoom’s model requires no complex setup and no kiosks. Riders book through the white-label branded app, payments are digital and 24/7 support is available. It is a true plug-and-play mobility business with minimal overhead for operators. Each operator gets their own Joyride dashboard to manage local fleets independently, while the central team maintains full visibility and control. For example, Geofencing has been one of the key features that allows BikeBoom to scale its project and effectively manage different operating areas at once. Operators plot service-area boundaries, slow-speed zones, no-ride zones and no-parking zones, then adjust them per territory.
The Results
Over two years, BikeBoom expanded its fleet size by a staggering 1,900%, from 100 vehicles to more than 2,000 on the Joyride platform. Franchise operators now manage their own business with consistency and less manual work.
“The numerous integrations with vehicles, hardware and IoT systems, combined with continuous platform development, have allowed us to become one of the leading operators in Italy, and we now aim to replicate this success across Europe,” Di Febo says.
BikeBoom's Focus on Features
Joyride has continuously supported BikeBoom with new features that help them acquire new operators and collaborate with companies already active in the sharing industry. For example, BikeBoom is skilled in using Joyride’s promotional features, including seasonal campaigns and initiatives such as Refer a Friend, which build customer loyalty, acquire new users and keeps them competitive in the market.
Di Febo says the in-field Operator App is also one of the most important tools for daily operations and for optimizing operational costs. The app provides direct communication for operations teams to address immediate vehicle usage and utlization.
A massive catalyst for BikeBoom’s conversion growth was the implementation of Joyride Pay. Designed specifically for lightweight electric vehicle operations, Joyride Pay integrates frictionless digital payment processing directly into the custom-branded rider app.
Built for lightweight electric vehicle operations, Joyride Pay puts payment processing directly inside the custom-branded rider app, so a rider never leaves the app to complete a transaction. For a franchise network, it also removes the single biggest thing a new franchisee is least equipped to build themselves: payment infrastructure.
- Seamless in-app checkout. Riders pay with major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay with zero redirection. BikeBoom surfaces these methods directly in its own branded app
- Local payment methods at global scale. Operators can reach more than 150 local in-app payment methods, including mobile wallets, bank transfers, mobile money and carrier billing
- Flexible rental models. Support for per-minute sharing, time-based rentals, daily and long-term rentals, and prepaid Ride Pass packages spanning one-day to annual durations, ensuring a single platform serves both a commuter in a city and a family on the Adriatic coast for a week
- Wallet and top-up mechanics. Wallet top-up bonuses reward riders for preloading funds, which lifts prepaid balances and repeat usage while smoothing operator cash flow
- Automated payment recovery. When a payment fails or underpays, Joyride runs two layers to recover the balance. Across 35 franchise partners, recovered revenue that would otherwise be written off compounds fast. BikeBoom has recovered more than €6,100 with Joyride’s Autorecovery features
- Payment analytics. Payment Analytics and Advanced Analytics in the fleet dashboard break down revenue, trip length and user behaviour, so each franchisee can see what is actually earning and the central team can benchmark across locations.
“We definitely recommend using Joyride Pay, which is a very useful solution for simplifying payment management. Another key element we strongly recommend is the use of Mandatory Parking Spots. This solution is highly appreciated by municipalities because it helps maintain order in public spaces. Properly distributing parking locations and vehicles allows operators to better cover the territory, improve the customer experience and provide more value through the sharing service,” Di Febo says.
Ready to Boom Like BikeBoom?
For multi-use fleet operators looking to scale, BikeBoom sees the fastest route as using every feature available on Joyride’s Premium platform from the beginning, in order to fully understand its potential. Di Febo also suggests starting with one vehicle category, understanding the market, and then gradually expanding the offer with additional vehicle types.
Another essential step is carefully studying local regulations before launching a new service, as every territory may have different requirements.
BikeBoom is currently evaluating new European and international markets for expansion. “We believe there are still many European markets with significant opportunities, where modern sharing services can replace traditional rental models that are still less developed,” Di Febo says. “Through Joyride, we aim to support new operators internationally, and we have already started discussions that could lead to future collaborations.”
